Great finishers aren't just bigger — they have soft touch with both hands, the right footwork, and the strength to finish through contact. That comes from reps around the rim, not hope. Below are 39 free finishing drills with video, grouped by goal and level: groove your touch with the Mikan series, lock in your layup footwork, learn to finish through a bump, then add euro-steps, floaters, and counters. New to it? Start with the Mikan drill and add one block a week.
The Mikan drill is the #1 finishing fundamental — it grooves soft touch and footwork around the rim with both hands. Do it every workout.
Most missed layups are footwork, not touch — gather on the right step and go up off the correct foot every time.
A strong, balanced base lets you absorb a bump and still finish — plant, stay low, and go up strong.
When help comes, finish away from the block — change angles, finish on the far side, or go reverse.
Beat length without out-jumping it — a floater, a jump hook, and a soft one-handed finish get the ball over the defense.
Missing layups you should make? Record a finish in the Level Up Basketball app and the AI coach breaks down your footwork and touch, then builds a finishing workout around what to fix.
